Accessible Playground at Adventure Valley in Durham

One of our standout highlights from last year was the launch of our brand-new, fully inclusive playground!

After its exciting debut during our October half-term Halloween event, the playground is up and running, providing a safe and fun space where everyone, no matter their ability.

Our playground has been designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring equipment that ensures children of all abilities can play together. Highlights include an accessible swing, two user-friendly roundabouts, and a wheelchair-accessible seesaw. These additions are part of our commitment to ensure that children of all abilities have the opportunity to play and explore together. We genuinely believe that our new accessible playground is not only the best in Durham, but the best in the North East and one of the best in the United Kingdom.

At Adventure Valley we understand that play is a vital part of childhood development, and we believe all children deserve the opportunity to play, socialise, and learn in an inclusive space. Accessible play areas provide essential chances for children to interact with their peers, build confidence, and develop important physical and emotional skills. By creating a playground that caters to all abilities, we hope to help to make sure that no child is left out.

Janine Calzini, owner of Adventure Valley said, “We’re incredibly proud to see this inclusive space come to life. It’s been a wonderful journey, and we’re excited to offer a place where families, regardless of ability, can enjoy time together and feel welcome.”

“A huge thank you must go to Evergreen Primary, Springwell School and Durham County Council for supporting this project. We’re also incredibly grateful that £100,000 of the project was funded by the UK Government’s rural prosperity scheme, all helping to make this exciting new addition possible. We can’t wait for you to explore it!”

The centre piece of the playground is a large play tower, offering 44 different activities, including slides, climbing walls, and accessible play panels. There are also sensory spaces and a Braille play panel, ensuring children with visual impairments can fully engage in the fun too.

We’re incredibly proud of this new addition to our attraction, whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for more adventures with us, we look forward to welcoming you soon!

Our Accessible Playground and Talon Towers are part-funded by UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund / Rural England Prosperity Fund.
